Travel

What should I pack?


Closer to the time of the trip, we will send a suggested packing list based on the final details of the retreat.




Are transfers to and from the airport provided? How far is the airport from the retreat site?


Please refer to the Registration Page and Planning Your Trip Page of your specific trip for information regarding airport transfers and distance from the closest major airport to the retreat destination.




Should I purchase travel insurance for my trip?


SJ Yoga Retreats highly recommends purchasing travel insurance for your trip. While it is optional and SJ Yoga Retreats does not maintain any liability or responsibility for your decision, travel insurance is a fairly inexpensive way to protect travelers from travel disruption, airline changes, and lost baggage depending on the level of plan purchased. Trip insurance can be purchased through your insurance agency. TravelInsurance.com also provides online quotes and comparisons. (SJ Yoga Retreats does not support, endorse or have any relationship with a specific insurance provider.)




Should I come alone/with a friend/spouse/partner?


SJ Yoga Retreats trips are open to all those interested in exploring their yoga practice. Attendees must be 21 years or older unless otherwise indicated. For those who attendees who are coming together and would like to share a room, please indicate your roomates name in the Notes section of your PayPal payment. Those sharing rooms must register within 24 hours of one another or your spot will be forfeited.




Do I need a valid passport?


For any trips outside of the United States, all travelers should have a valid passport acceptable for international travel. It is the responsibility of the attendee to ensure the passport is valid for travel. Lack of/invalid passport is not grounds for a refund. Click here for information regarding US Passports.




Do I have to make my own flight arrangements?


Yes, you are responsible for your own flight arrangements and can make them anytime after registration. Please see our FAQ about travel insurance prior to making flight plans.





Yoga

What level of yoga is this retreat for?


All levels! We welcome those who have never set foot on a mat to those who practice every day! During the daily yoga classes, we will lead a variety of yoga styles - from active vinyasa to mediation to myofascial release. Don't know what any of those terms mean? Don't worry! Jen and Sue will guide you through the practices with explanations along the way. Come and be open to what yoga can offer you!




Do I have to attend all of the yoga classes?


While we want you to explore and experience all the yoga on the trip, we recognize that for many this is very precious time away from your every day life and responsibilities. We encourage come to all the practices, but also acknowlege what best serves you physcially and emtionally so you reconnect and truely take of yourself.




What time does the yoga retreat begin?


Retreats start at 6:00 pm on the designated day at the destination site unless otherwise indicated. Please ensure your travel plans allow time to arrive by 6:00 pm.




Can I schedule private instruction with Sue or Jen on the trip?

Dietary Requirements

I have some specific food restrictions. Will there be food choices to accommodate my needs?


Your registration packet will include questions on food preferences/allergies/sensativites. We will make every effort to accommodate your needs. We have been told the chefs we are working with that they are very used to working with food preferences and tailoring meals.





Policies and Trip Registration

What is your cancellation policy?


Because our retreat is set for a specific number of people, once you are registered, your deposit is non-refundable and you are responsible for the full payment of the trip. If you are unable to attend, you may find a suitable person to replace you but payment from that person must be received in full prior to a refund being issued. In the unlikely event that SJ Yoga Retreats should cancel a trip, the full cost of recieved payments will be refunded.




When and how do I pay for the retreat?


Payment may be made via our website via PayPal using your PayPal balance, direct withdrawal from your checking account or credit card. See the Registration Page for your specific retreat for information regarding paper-based checks. A 50% deposit will be taken a the time of registration. The balance is due 90 days prior to the beginning date of the retreat - an email will be sent to you as a reminder




Will you send additional registration information?


Yes! Prior to the trip, we will send you documents to fill out including basic information about you, your experience with yoga, your goals for the retreat plus additional information. You will also need to sign a waiver form.




Is there a liability waiver I should sign?


Yes. Shortly after your register, you will receive an online questionnaire containing a liability waiver which must be electronically signed prior to the beginning of the trip.




Are retreats co-ed?


Our current trips are for women only.





Sitges 2020

Do I need a passport to travel to Sitges, Spain?


Spanish law requires your passport to be valid at least 90 days before your arrival into Spain. For any trips outside of the United States, all travelers should have a valid passport acceptable for international travel. What airport should I fly in and out of?


We suggest flying into Aeroport de Barcelona-El Prat, (BCN) in the city of Barcelona, Spain.




Do I need to make my own travel arrangements?

What are the transportation options between the Barcelona aiport and the Maisa in Sitges and vice versa?


The villa, Can Marcer de La Penya, in Sitges is easily accessible by bus, train, taxi or rented-car. More information will be made available closer to the trip. But: - Busses run directly from the airport, taking approximately an hour for about $5-10 USD each way. - Trains leave from Barcelona center (you must take a metro train or taxi from the airport to Barcelona center) and take approximately 45 minutes for about $7-10 USD - Private car/taxis from the airport take about 30 minutes and range between $65 - 80 USD - Rental cars can be rented from the airport and vary in cost.




What time does the retreat begin?


Our first yoga class will be at 6:00 pm on October 4, 2020. Please ensure your travel plans allow time to arrive by 6:00 pm. You are welcome to arrive at the Villa anytime after 2:00 pm on October 4, 2020.




What is the currency in Spain?


Spain uses the EURO currency. As of November 2019, $1 USD = .91 EURO. You can exchange currency at the airport upon arrival. ATMs are available locally. Travel tip: While the choice is yours, we suggest arriving in a foreign country with some local currency even if you plan on using local ATM's. Your local bank can help you if you wish to obtain Euros prior to arrival; it can take up to 2 weeks for your bank to provide the current.




Does the CDC have any health suggestions when travelling to Spain?

Do we need to tip service providers?


As is customary in the United States, you may tip service providers (drivers, tour guides, housekeeping staff, etc.) at your own discretion. At the end of the trip, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a gratuity for our cooking staff and for our house staff. This is at your discretion.




Is the water safe to drink in Spain/at the Maisa?


According to our house manager, the water at the house comes from an underwater source orginating in the Pyrenees and is treated locally. However, they do suggest drinking bottled water and we will ensure water is available.




Can you accomodate varying dietary needs?


We will send you a questionnaire in December asking if and what your dietary needs are. We will make every effort to work with the chef and ensure your needs are met.




How often will we have yoga?


We will generally have two yoga classes per day - one in the morning around 7:30 am and one in the evening around 5:00 pm. On days where we have scheduled activities, we will adjust this as best we can to accomodate the group. We will provide more information on the types of yoga we will do upon arrival.




What level practitioner is the trip geared toward?

What yoga equipment do I need to bring?


Please absolutely bring your yoga mat! We will provide blocks and straps. You are welcome to bring anything else that makes your practice more comfortable. *We will not have extra mats, so please bring yours!!




Is there self-service laundry at Can Marcer de La Penya?


There is a washing machine for our use at the Maisa.




How will our activites be scheduled?


Your trip includes a number of activities to experience the local culture of Barcelon and Sitges. We will provide more information closer to the trip. We have also ensured you have ample time to spend how you please - taking another day trip at your own expense, a hike through the Garraf National Forest or simply lounging by the pool.

Is there Wi-Fi at the Maisa? Will my mobile phone work?


Yes there is wi-fi at Can Marcer de La Penya. Keep in mind that our Maisa is located in a rural spot - coverage and speeds may vary. Please check with your mobile provider for how your international features are covered. And keep in mind, part of your retreat is to unplug...literally!
